School Closing Procedures

The safety conditions of our roads will be checked, with decisions being reached by 6:30 a.m.  Decisions will be based on our ability to safely transport our children.

Once a decision has been reached, the information is placed on the automated Mayville Community School's main number, which you may call to received recorded information on school closings.  The number to call is 989-843-6115, press 5 to activate school closing information.  Parents and students should call this number and not the school offices for information.  The information is also updated on the Mayville Community Schools website at www.mayville.k12.mi.us.  There is no faster way to learn about school closings or delays, because the school closing information is updated before any other source is notified.  After the information has been updated, the following radio and TV stations will be contacted:  WKYO 1360, WIDL 92.1, WSGW 790/100.5, WNEM-TV5, WJRT-TV12.  We also contact LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network).  You may still listen to your radio or TV station for the information.

When it becomes necessary to cancel school after the start of the day, the skill center students must be returned to Mayville.  Approximately 45 minutes after a decision has been reached, our students can be dismissed.  The 45 minutes allows for trips to and from the tech center in Caro.
NOTE:  Parents/Guardians, especially those of elementary age children, should make arrangements for the proper supervision of their children in the event school needs to be dismissed early.  Arrangements such as having the children go to a neighbor or having someone at your home is recommended.  Please do not as school personnel to make variations on bus routes or drop off points on such hectic days and sometimes - dangerous roads.

Inclement weather may delay the scheduled start of school.  Buses may run behind schedule.  A substantial delay (1 or 2 hours) will be announced via the same procedures as above.
